| I can't believe this...Michael Jackson memorial is donated... | | A local monument company created and crafted a monument to Michael Jackson to be sent to Gary, Indiana. The $28,000 monument has been shipped out, our newspaper said. Now, I think it's very nice of them to do this for Gary, Indiana. And I don't begrudge Mr. Jackson a monument, he was an immense talent and a gifted performer. But food banks have empty shelves, children are going hungry as their parents struggle with joblessness, reduced work hours and homelessness. Can you imagine how many meals $28,000 would provide if the monument company donated that money in Mr. Jackson's name? What has happened to our priorities?! When a dead person is more important than the health and well being of people living, especially in times like these, there is something seriously wrong. I think the world has gone insane. Michael Jackson was quite the philanthropist and I think a donation to a worthy cause would be a memorial he would appreciate much more than a monument.[em]sad[/em] | |
| | | Should L.A. pay for Michael Jackson's memorial? | | I was just reading the article about this, and was surprised at how much this cost. I do not think that the city should be responsible for the cost of this. $50,000 for the police officers lunches, not to mention all of the overtime. The state is bankrupt, what were these people thinking. L.A. has set up a website asking for donations from the fans to cover some of the cost. What about his family, shouldn't they be responsbile for the cost. My brother passed away in April and before the funeral home would start to make arrangements, they wanted proof of life insurance or a credit card. I am sure that he had life insurance. What about all these stars, why can they not help pay this bill. Why should the tax payers be hit with another bill to pay. I liked Michael Jackson and am sorry about his passing, but to expect the citizens to pay for his memorial is wrong. | |

Do you think it has something to do with the popularity of Michael Jackson as the King of Pop or it is something also to do with the technology today that has cable and internet as well? (compare to Elvis and John Lennon. What do you think the reason that makes Michael Jackson very popular around the world to the extent that he is already a history?
